The end of April and all of May was jam-packed with activities. Between the kids regular activities and getting our Rental home ready to put on the market, I also went on a weekend women’s retreat and we left for our vacation to Mexico the following morning that I got back! But we somehow managed fit in a little family celebration for Calvin’s 8th Birthday. Calvin has been reading a collection of Howard Pyle’s books which include The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood, King Arthur, and The Story of Sir Lancelot. Calvin is really enjoying the Medieval period so we decided to make his party a Knights, Nobles and Princesses theme. We kept it casual since it was just us as a family. Calvin and Eric made a bow and arrow out of sticks weeks ago and Calvin has been practicing his technique. So for his birthday, Eric and I surprised him with a real actual bow and arrow as his present! We all had a great time taking turns shooting it right off our back deck.
Calvin asked for a chocolate cake with caramel frosting and I surprised him by making it a sword and stone theme! The girls love to dress up so I found some cute medieval princess caps and knights outfit. They were thrilled!
I found this cardboard castle from Melissa and Doug and it’s been in use daily since this party. Calvin loves to chase the girls with his “sword” and the girls quickly run and hide inside the castle. It’s a really fun game they enjoy playing all together.
I’m so glad we were able to put together a little party for Calvin and we all enjoyed taking a break and spending the day all together as a family.
